Potato au Gratin

Creamy, cheesy and flavorful potatoes, which are a great side-dish for meat or fish. It can also be eaten as a main dish.


Ingredients (2~3 servings)

  • Potatoes (450 g)
  • Butter (20 g)
  • Onion (1 medium / 2 small)
  • Garlic (2 cloves)
  • Milk (240 mL)
  • Heavy cream (60 mL)
  • Shredded cheddar (90 g)
  • Parmesan (15 g)
  • Parsley
  • Salt and pepper

Steps

  1. Cut the potatoes in thin slices. Wash them to partially remove some starch, then lay them in a tray.
  2. Chop finely the onion and garlic and put it to cook with the butter at medium-high heat, until they are translucent.
  3. Add the milk and cream and slowly bring to boil, together with the cheddar, salt and pepper. Do not stop stirring to prevent clumps.
  4. Preheat the oven at 180 °C. Pour the mixture over the potatoes and grate the Parmesan on top.
  5. Cover the tray with foil and bake it for 🕰️ 1 hour until the potatoes are tender.
  6. Remove the foil cover and bake it for 🕰️ 20 minutes.
  7. Let it sit for 🕰️ 5 minutes at room temperature before serving.
